Got a mobile phone? Then you're in luck, because you're incredibly valuable, and that value increases every single day.
"Me? Little ol' me?" you say to yourself.
As you are surely well aware of by now, that phone needs to be connected to a wireless network. There are only a handful or two of companies that can do that for you, and they all want you. Really, really badly.
How badly you ask?
Wireless carriers in the US spend, on average, $169 million every month trying to convince you to switch to their network. That's over $2 billion a year.
In addition to that, carriers spend billions every year upgrading their wireless networks.

Wireless carriers are under immense pressure from their investors and stockholders to constantly increase revenue, and the best way to do that is to add more subscribers to their networks. As consumers become more educated about their options, luring them over to a carrier's network becomes even more difficult.
As you can see in the graph above, some carriers are feeling the pressure more than others, forcing them to be even more aggressive with their campaigns and promotions. The industry is in an ultra-competitive state.
So, what does this mean for you, the consumer with that shiny internet connected device in your pocket?
In short, power.
You have more power than ever, because you are more valuable than ever. The wireless carriers need you more than you need them. Take a look at your phone, your data plan, and your monthly bill, and shop around a little bit. It's highly likely you are currently paying more than you need to.
But more than that, find a wireless dealer with impeccable customer service. Look for sales reps that solve your problems before you're even aware of them. Search for the ones that will fight tooth and nail to get you the best deal, and give you the best phones and plans that suit your unique needs. When you find them, hold onto them.
Above all, never settle.
